Week 1 Update Adds Shell Respec, Fragile Tarstones, and New Beacons

Cold Symmetry's Week 1 Update for Mortal Shell II refunds Glimpse with Mether's Severance, adds Fragile Tarstones and Glimpse Stones, places new Beacons, and ships a large PC crash and performance pass.

What was announced

The first major post-launch patch is live on PC as Steam build 25005568. It turns Glimpse and Tarcore into renewable progression, adds a Shell Bond respec item, drops new Fragile Tarstones, plants extra Beacons in Fainweald and Mammon, retunes riposte scaling for late game and NG+, and includes a long crash and performance list. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series were listed as coming shortly after the PC drop.

Key points

  • Mether's Severance refunds Glimpse spent on a Shell's Bond when turned in to Zhirelle.
  • Fragile Tarstones break into Tarcore; Glimpse Stone breaks into Glimpses after enough kills.
  • Egon's Stone returns you to a dungeon entrance on death and can block Gloom loss when it breaks.
  • New daytime Beacons were added in Fainweald and Mammon.
  • Obsidian Hammer and Great Martyr's Blade received damage passes; riposte now scales into late game, NG+, and Night Mode.
  • Mini-Beacons no longer award a Glimpse; extra Glimpse was added at the Gloom Siphon.
  • PC: shader hitch after compile, tar-gate frame drops, crowded-area spawners, Switch Pro glyphs, and Steam Deck detection were in the notes.
  • If frame generation breaks after the update, Cold Symmetry asked players to drop mods and make sure engine.ini is not read-only before patching.

Context for current players

This summary follows Cold Symmetry's Week 1 Steam news post and the pinned Steam discussion, plus GameSpot, Eurogamer, and Famitsu reports dated August 29–September 1, 2026.

Console certification was still pending in those reports. Check your storefront before assuming PS5 or Xbox have the same build.

Older guides on this site that treat Glimpse as a one-cycle budget are still useful for routing, but Bond refunds and Fragile Tarstones change how hard you have to commit to a single Shell.
