Mortal Shell 2 PC Fixes, Crashes & Steam Deck

Quick answer: Install Balance Patch 1 on PC, verify Steam files, and cap shader stutter with an unlimited NVIDIA/AMD shader cache. If Zmey steals your weapons, unequip Grisha Remnant before retrying. Steam Deck is playable around a locked 30 FPS on medium/low with TSR.

Do this first

  1. Update to Balance Patch 1 on PC. It includes crash, bug, and performance fixes plus economy changes.
  2. Steam: verify integrity of game files.
  3. GPU: set Shader Cache Size to Unlimited (NVIDIA Control Panel or AMD Software). UE5 hitching on first visits is the most common stutter report.
  4. If the game still will not boot, delete the local shader cache and let it rebuild on the next launch.

Zmey: weapons disappear mid-fight

This is a known launch bug, not Cosmic Disease. Playstack tied it to Grisha Remnant — specifically a summoned Grisha being hit by cursed fire. Unequip Grisha Remnant before entering or retrying Zmey. A developer said a fix was ready for a later hotfix; do not assume it is already live.

Other launch issues

Steam Deck

Steam Deck HQ's launch test: the game is playable. A locked 30 FPS is smoother than chasing 40–60 in crowded fights. Use Medium or Low, TSR Balanced, and the SteamDeck=0 %command% launch option if the in-game settings menu is hidden.

Expect hitching when a new area compiles shaders. That usually calms down after the first visit.
