Mortal Shell 2 How to Parry — Infinite Seal Guide
Quick answer: To parry, equip the Infinite Seal from Sester Genessa's Marrow Keep training arena, tap the guard input on the impact, then Riposte when the enemy Breaks. Until that timing is comfortable, the starting Untarnished Seal is the safer Perfect Guard option.

How parrying works
Parrying is a Seal action, not a default button. Mortal Shell II has no stamina bar, so defense is about Break: successful Perfect Guards, parries, and Hardens fill the enemy stun meter. A full Break lets you press attack for a Riposte.
- Untarnished Seal: hold to block; time a Perfect Guard to deal Break damage. Missing the perfect window still blocks, but fills your Guard meter if you hold block too long.
- Infinite Seal: tap on impact for a parry. Higher Break reward, smaller window, no long hold-block safety net.
- Red attacks: unparryable. Roll or Harden instead of guessing.
How to unlock the Infinite Seal
- Finish the prologue, reach Marrow Keep, and rest at the hub Beacon.
- From the Marrow Keep Beacon, enter the cavern arena with white stone coffins and candles.
- Speak to Sester Genessa and complete her Perfect Guard training — she requires several successful guards before she breaks.
- Riposte her to receive the Infinite Seal, then equip it from the equipment menu.
You can switch back to the Untarnished Seal at any time. Achievement-sensitive players should not equip the Slayer Seal while practicing; community guides report it disables achievements on the current save.
Practical parry tips
| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| Learning a new boss | Keep Untarnished Seal until the string is readable, then swap to Infinite Seal for extra Break. |
| Multi-hit sword strings | Parry the first readable hit, then be ready for a longer string than three attacks — Nameless Captive is the textbook example. |
| Windmill / headspin | For a normal clear, back out. Only stay in if you are hunting Peter's Perfect Parry with Untarnished Seal. |
| After a successful parry | Take one or two hits, not a full combo. Riposte when Break fills; greed is what kills. |
| Balance Patch 1 | Guard can now be used while walking. That helps reposition during Perfect Guard, not during Infinite Seal taps. |
